WRAP It Up

Gift bags have never really been my thing. I totally understand the ease of them, I just prefer the excitement of tearing the wrapping paper off of a curiously shaped box.

I used to stock up on wrapping paper. I always seemed to have every kind of Christmas paper ever created and a few different random patterns for birthdays or baby showers. When I’d go to use it, I either wouldn’t have enough or I’d only have the wrong patterns.

I am always looking for ways to personalize the things I do, so I started getting creative with my wrapping.

I came across brown kraft paper and started using this to wrap all my gifts. While brown paper may seem drab, dull, and less than impressive, it actually has quite a bit of creative potential!

Here’s how I do it…

WRAP it

Brown paper gift wrapping is definitely not something that I invented. There are several stores that sell a variety of kinds and some have cute, subtle patterns too. Brown kraft paper is my choice because it is easy to purchase in bulk and inexpensive.

If you are looking to buy online, Amazon sells a variety of brands.

HERE is one I have tried.

As a side note, I usually like to use packing tape over scotch tape to secure the edges so they hold tighter and don’t pop open as easily.

DECORATE it

My kids are usually the artists for our gifts and it’s actually a GREAT opportunity for them to personalize it in their own, adorable, kid-cute way.

Give them some markers, crayons, stickers and let them go! If you’re looking for something different, dot markers are another easy and fun way to add polka dots. They are also really easy for younger kids to use.

Check them out HERE.

My absolute favorite part is watching them add their own creative touch. They  are always so proud to take credit for it too!

Finish with a BOW

Bows are essential for the finishing touch on any gift! I usually add one once my kids are finished with the decorating.

If you are looking for a more sophisticated style, you might find yourself skipping the decorating & moving straight to the bow.

You can really go as simple or complicated as you want with this. Keep it simple with a plain string, ribbon, or yarn bow or get fancy with a big fluffy tulle bow.

(I’m working on a free pattern for my paper bow so stay tuned for that!)

Lastly, a unique gift tag, tassel, or small sprig is a great addition in the center.

I do have some patterned wrapping paper rolls stored away but have learned that adding a little bit of a personal, creative touch means so much. Trust me when I say, you’ll LOVE the lasting impression such a simple thing has.
